Welcome
Wingrave & Rowsham Gun Club has been shooting for twenty years; we are a small, friendly clay pigeon shoot in Buckinghamshire near the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire borders with the emphasis firmly on enjoying our shooting. We meet every other Sunday morning for a 32 bird sporting shoot and a 25 bird skeet, compak or ABT (down the line) shoot.
how it works
We generally meet between 9 and 10am for a chat, cup of tea, and a bacon butty, before setting up; members decide on the siting of traps and cages for the sporting shoot and do the lugging about, while guests can relax in the club house. We don't have cartridges on site but everything else is to hand with a mixture of fixed, electric, and even manual traps.
We don't have any coaching available, but a wealth of experience between us - we can offer as many suggestions and opinions as you could possibly want to hear! - and, of course, we've all had experience of the various schools and coaches in the area, so we can always point you in the right direction.
Two of our members have been on the CPSA health and safety course and we stick to the practice of safe handling of guns. Guns are always broken when not in use, firing lines are strictly maintained and any unsafe practices will be picked up on immediately. Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times who will be personally responsible for their - and our - safety.
The season starts in September and scores are kept from each shoot; prizes are awarded at the annual Gun Club Supper before the next Christmas. It's become a bit of tradition of late to shoot a flurry around New Year (scores still count!).
we may not be Churchills, but...
This is a small, private local club that exists for the benefit and enjoyment of the members; we all muck in and expect others to do the same. Our club house is a portakabin - cold in winter unless you're under the electric heater - the ground is rough - and needs cutting during the summer on a convenient Saturday - and there's no one person deciding what we shoot at sporting - if you're fed up with left right crossers, then grab the trap yourself and set up a fast driven. With a spanner and a strong arm you might even be able to set up a teal! Membership costs reflect this, making our club ideal for your regular shooting.
If you've been to a 'have-a-go-day' at a shooting school, you'll find our traps are generally faster because we're not all beginners and fancy a bit of a challenge. Don't worry, when your scores start improving, you'll feel all the more satisfied!
So give us a call and come along for the morning, we'll be happy to see you.
